Abstract

The research objective was to establish a connection between the esteemed values (including opposing values) and the dimensions of life quality and well-being. The research was conducted using the following questionnaire methods: Schwartz’s Portraits Value Questionnaire (PVQ-21), The Sense of Quality of Life Questionnaire by Straś-Romanowska, Oleszkowicz, Frąckowiak and Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scales (PWB). The results showed that, among perceived dimensions of life quality, the esteemed values are connected most with metaphysical dimension and least with psychophysical dimension. Such values as: universalism, benevolence, self-direction and achievement are correlated with life quality and well-being only positively; in the case of the remaining values, correlations are mixed. It is more beneficent for one’s well-being to highly esteem opposing values (i.e. orientation to self and to others) than to esteem one value high and the remaining low.
