Work/family Relationship, Job Satisfaction, Satisfaction with Life and Health Among Shift and Day Working Nurses
Keywords:
shift work, work/family relationship, job satisfaction, satisfaction with life, healthAbstract
This paper compares work/family balance (enrichment and conflict), job and life satisfaction, and subjective health among day working nurses and shift working nurses in a fast rotating shift system (1 to 3 shifts of the same kind in a row). One hundred and seventy eight married nurses with at least one child participated in the study. There were differences between groups with regard to variables related to work. Day working nurses scored higher in work/family enrichment in comparison to shift working nurses. The results of work/family conflicts and family/work conflicts were significantly higher among shift working nurses than in nurses working only during the day. The groups did not differ with regard to variables not related to work (family/work enrichment, satisfaction with life and health).References
