Abstract

Research on life satisfaction and well-being is a broad and growing field in psychology. Karate as a specific physical activity can be related to life satisfaction. The purpose of this study was to measure the level of life satisfaction among participants of regular karate training compared to people who do not undertake physical activity, and to examine the relationship between the time and frequency of training and the level of life satisfaction.

The study was attended by 112 people selected on purpose to two groups (karate practitioners and non-training persons). They were examined using Life Satisfaction Scale (SWLS). The results show that the level of life satisfaction of people who regularly train karate is significantly higher. The study also showed positive correlation between training time and life satisfaction. The relation between the frequency of training and life satisfaction proved to be insignificant. The results presented in this study broaden the knowledge about life satisfaction in relation to physical activity and may become the basis for further research.
